Laser Nose Thread Vein Removal at Centre for Surgery, London
Nose thread vein removal in summary: A non-surgical Fotona long-pulse Nd:YAG laser treatment that targets and clears visible spider veins (telangiectasia) on the nose — including the sides of the nose, around the nostrils, and across the bridge. Most simple cases resolve in 1 session; rosacea-related thread veins typically need 2–3. From £150 per single thread vein, £350 for multiple veins across the nose, with course-of-3 packages from £400. CQC-regulated clinic, GMC-registered practitioners, 0% APR finance available subject to status.
Nose thread veins — also known as nasal spider veins, broken capillaries, or by the medical term telangiectasia — are small, dilated blood vessels visible on the nose’s surface. They’re particularly common because the nose is the most centrally placed and sun-exposed part of the face, and the skin overlying the nasal vasculature is relatively thin. They’re harmless from a health perspective but cosmetically prominent — patients often report being self-conscious because the nose is the focal point of the face.
Long-pulse Nd:YAG laser is the gold-standard treatment for nose thread veins. The 1064nm wavelength is selectively absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood vessel, generating heat that coagulates and collapses the vein wall while leaving surrounding skin unaffected. The body then naturally absorbs the closed-off vein over the following weeks.
Strong association with rosacea. Nose thread veins are one of the most common features of rosacea, particularly the erythematotelangiectatic subtype. If you have visible thread veins on the nose alongside background facial flushing or persistent redness, the underlying cause is likely rosacea — and a combined treatment approach (nose veins plus general facial vasculature) usually produces the best result. See for the full rosacea pathway.

What are Nose Thread Veins (Nasal Spider Veins)?
Nose thread veins are small, dilated blood vessels visible on the surface of the nose. They typically appear as fine red, blue, or purple lines, sometimes in a branching or web-like pattern. They form when small blood vessels in the dermis of the nose become permanently dilated and visible through the overlying skin.
The nose is the most central, sun-exposed, and visually focal part of the face. Thread veins here:
Many patients with nose thread veins also have rosacea — sometimes diagnosed, sometimes not. Persistent thread veins on the nose alongside background flushing, persistent redness, or central facial sensitivity is the classic pattern of erythematotelangiectatic rosacea. Treating the thread veins is helpful, but addressing the underlying rosacea is equally important to prevent new veins forming. See if this pattern matches your concerns.

Nose Thread Vein Removal Before & After Photos
The cases below show real nose thread vein removal results from patients treated at Centre for Surgery. We only publish photographs where the patient has provided written consent. A wider range of cases is available to view in person at consultation.
Setting realistic expectations. Most simple nose thread vein cases are resolved in a single session. Rosacea-related thread veins typically need 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, and ongoing maintenance is often needed because the underlying rosacea continues to drive new vessel formation. Smaller veins often clear immediately during treatment; larger veins may show a brown or grey discolouration that fades over a few days. The final result becomes evident 4–6 weeks after each session as the body absorbs the closed-off vessels.
Causes of Nose Thread Veins
Nose thread veins develop for a range of reasons — some genetic, some lifestyle-related, and some linked to other skin conditions, particularly rosacea. Understanding what’s caused yours can help with prevention of new veins and choice of treatment approach.
is by far the most common driver of persistent nose thread veins. Chronic low-grade skin inflammation in rosacea stimulates the formation of new blood vessels, and the central face — particularly the nose and cheeks — is where this concentrates. Patients with rosacea often have a combination of background facial redness, flushing, and visible thread veins on the nose. Both respond well to Nd:YAG laser treatment, often delivered as a combined protocol.
Many patients have a family history of facial thread veins, particularly on the nose. If your parents or siblings developed nasal thread veins early in life, you’re more likely to as well. Genetic predisposition determines skin thickness, vessel wall strength, and the natural pattern of nasal vasculature.
The nose is the most sun-exposed part of the face — it sticks out furthest and rarely gets effective shade. UVA and UVB exposure cause progressive damage to the dermal collagen and weaken the walls of small blood vessels. Patients with significant sun history (particularly outdoor lifestyles, sailing, or unprotected sun exposure in early life) commonly develop nose thread veins later in life.
As skin ages, it loses collagen and elastin and becomes thinner. The thinner, more transparent skin reveals underlying vessels that were always present. This is why nose thread veins often appear or worsen after age 40, even in patients who hadn’t been bothered by them before.
Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, menopause, or with hormone replacement therapy can cause new thread veins to develop on the nose. These may resolve spontaneously after pregnancy but often become permanent and require treatment.
Long-term heavy alcohol intake can cause persistent flushing and chronic broken capillaries, often concentrated on the nose. This is sometimes mistaken for rosacea but is a separate phenomenon — though the two often coexist.
Direct trauma to the nose (sports injury, surgical incisions, accidental injury) can leave behind visible blood vessels as part of the healing process. These usually resolve over weeks to months but occasionally persist and need treatment.
Vigorous nose-blowing during persistent colds, hay fever, or chronic sinus problems can transiently raise pressure in the nasal vessels and contribute to new thread vein formation. The effect is usually mild but can compound other factors.
Repeated exposure to extreme cold, followed by warming up indoors, causes rapid vasodilation cycles that can damage small nasal blood vessels over time. Patients with significant outdoor cold exposure (winter sports, outdoor work in cold climates) sometimes develop nose thread veins as a result.
How Nd:YAG Laser Removes Nose Thread Veins
Long-pulse Nd:YAG 1064nm laser is the laser of choice for nose thread veins. The wavelength is selectively absorbed by oxyhaemoglobin and deoxyhaemoglobin in the blood vessel, allowing precise targeting of the dilated vessel without damaging the surrounding nasal skin.
Sclerotherapy (injection of a sclerosant into the vein) is sometimes proposed for Facial thread veins (diyahaesthetics.com). We don’t offer this approach for the nose because the vessels are very small and the nose’s central position raises the risk of skin necrosis or pigmentation changes if the sclerosant leaks into surrounding tissue.
IPL and pulsed dye lasers work for fine surface telangiectasia and general facial redness, but their light energy is poorly absorbed by the larger blue-purple vessels typical of established nose thread veins. They can also cause pigmentation issues on darker skin types.
Most simple nose thread vein cases respond well to 1 session. Patients with multiple veins, larger vessels, or rosacea-related thread veins typically need 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Very extensive cases, particularly those associated with active rosacea, may benefit from a combined protocol with .
Who is Suitable for Nose Thread Vein Removal? Comparison vs Other Vascular Treatments
Nose thread vein removal with Nd:YAG laser is suitable for adults with visible thread veins on the nose, sides of the nose, nostrils, or nasal bridge who want a non-surgical solution. Most patients are candidates — the consultation step exists to confirm which specific protocol suits your case and to identify whether underlying rosacea also needs treatment.
A face-to-face consultation is required before any treatment is booked. The practitioner will examine your thread veins, classify them by type and pattern, identify whether underlying rosacea is contributing, and tell you directly which treatment (or combination) suits your case.
The Nose Thread Vein Removal Procedure
A nose thread vein removal session takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of veins and the area covered. The session uses Fotona’s SP Dynamis platform with the long-pulse Nd:YAG 1064nm laser.
Most patients describe the laser pulse as a brief snapping or stinging sensation, similar to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. The cold-air cooling significantly reduces discomfort. Most rate the treatment 2–3 out of 10 for discomfort. Topical numbing cream can be applied for 20 minutes before treatment if you prefer additional comfort, though it isn’t usually needed.
Single-vein treatments take 10–15 minutes for laser delivery. Multiple-vein nose treatments take 20–30 minutes. With check-in, photographs, and aftercare advice, allow 45–60 minutes total.
A standard course is 1 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Most simple cases are resolved in a single session. More complex cases (extensive thread vein networks, particularly when associated with rosacea) may need 3–5 sessions for optimal clearance.
Nose Thread Vein Removal Aftercare and Recovery
Recovery in summary: Mild redness and very minor swelling on the treated area for a few hours up to 24 hours is the only common side effect. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. No time off work needed.
Avoid all direct sun exposure on the nose for at least 2 weeks after treatment, and use SPF 50+ daily for at least 4 weeks. Sun exposure on healing skin significantly raises the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin types. The nose is the most sun-exposed part of the face, so this is especially important here. SPF discipline also helps prevent new thread vein formation in future.
If you develop persistent redness or swelling beyond 48 hours, signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus, fever), unusual blistering, or any other concerns, contact the clinic on . Side effects beyond mild transient redness are uncommon but should always be reviewed.
Expected Results from Nose Thread Vein Removal
Nose thread vein laser produces visible results quickly. Most patients see immediate change during the treatment itself, with continued improvement over the following weeks as the body absorbs the closed-off vessels.
Smaller, finer thread veins often disappear visibly during the laser pulse itself — the patient and practitioner can both see the vessel fade as it’s treated. Larger vessels may darken to a brown-grey colour immediately after treatment as the coagulated blood is visible through the skin. Mild redness around treated vessels is normal for several hours.
The brown-grey discolouration over treated vessels gradually fades. Mild crusting (small dark spots) may appear and naturally fall off within 5–7 days. The treated area looks gradually clearer as healing progresses.
The body’s lymphatic system absorbs the closed-off vessel over the following weeks. Most of the visible improvement appears by the 4-week mark, with the final result evident by 6 weeks after the session.
For patients booking a course (typically 2–3 sessions for moderate cases), each session builds on the previous one. The most pronounced result is typically evident 6–8 weeks after the final session. For complex networks of thread veins (often rosacea-related), a course of 3–5 sessions is needed for best clearance.
The treated vessels are permanently closed and don’t return. However, new thread veins can develop on the nose over time — particularly with continued sun exposure, untreated rosacea, ageing, or other contributing factors. Some patients book maintenance sessions every 1–3 years to address any new veins that appear.
Most patients achieve 80–100% clearance of treated nose thread veins after a complete course. Single isolated vessels typically respond best. Extensive networks of nose thread veins (particularly rosacea-related) may need more sessions for full clearance, and some background flushing or redness may persist if the underlying rosacea isn’t also being managed.
For patients with rosacea-driven nose thread veins specifically, we usually recommend a combined protocol — addressing both the
