Ideal Candidates for ProlapLase

You will be a suitable candidate for ProlapLase® if you have pelvic organ prolapse and wish to treat this without surgery or pessaries.

ProlapLase® is most effective for mild to moderate degrees of prolapse. Severe prolapse may require assessment. Your clinician will advise at consultation whether ProlapLase® is appropriate for your degree of prolapse, or whether a surgical referral is more appropriate.

A current normal cervical smear (Pap test) is required before treatment can begin. Active infections must be resolved before proceeding.

What Does ProlapLase Involve?

Depending on the severity of the prolapse, between three and five sessions of ProlapLase® at monthly intervals are sufficient to achieve significant improvement. No special preoperative preparations or postoperative precautions are necessary. You can immediately return to your normal everyday activities after each session.

ProlapLase® is incisionless and virtually painless. No anaesthetic is required. Avoid sexual activity for 72 hours after each session.

Annual maintenance sessions of one session per year are recommended after the initial course to sustain long-term results.

What To Expect

Your consultation takes place at our Baker Street clinic. Our clinical team will assess the degree and type of pelvic organ prolapse and confirm whether ProlapLase is appropriate for your presentation. ProlapLase is most effective for mild to moderate prolapse — severe cases may require surgical assessment and Mr will advise accordingly. A current normal cervical smear result is required before treatment can begin. The number of sessions required (typically three to five) is discussed at this appointment. A treatment plan and itemised cost are confirmed before you leave. £1,200 per session; £3,600 for a full course of three sessions.

No special preoperative preparations are required for ProlapLase. No fasting is needed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. Ensure you have a normal cervical smear result — treatment cannot proceed without this. Active vaginal infections must be resolved before treatment begins. There are no restrictions on eating, drinking, or medication before your session.

ProlapLase takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes per session depending on the extent of treatment required. No is needed. A Fotona vaginal handpiece micropulses of Er:YAG laser energy to the prolapsed areas and to the whole vaginal surface. The thermal effect stimulates collagen production, strengthening the vaginal tissue and improving pelvic support. You may feel mild warmth during the procedure. Once complete, you can dress and leave immediately — no recovery time is required. Avoid sexual activity for 72 hours after each session.

Improvement in prolapse symptoms is typically noticeable after the initial sessions as new collagen progressively strengthens the vaginal support tissue. Between three and five sessions at monthly intervals are depending on severity. Results are stable for up to 18 months. Annual maintenance sessions of one session per year are recommended to sustain the results long term. For severe that does not respond sufficiently to laser treatment, surgical including perineoplasty or vaginoplasty may be discussed with Mr Daniels.
