High Definition Liposuction (HD Lipo)

HD Lipo uses VASER ultrasound, SAFElipo™ power-assisted liposuction, and Argo Plasma skin tightening to sculpt a more precise definition in areas such as the abdomen, chest, and arms. At our London clinic, treatment is performed by consultant body contouring surgeons, with prices starting at £6,500.

High Definition Liposuction in London for Athletic Body Definition

High-definition liposuction, also known as HD lipo, is an advanced body sculpting procedure that goes beyond conventional fat removal. It is designed to reveal and enhance the underlying musculature by selectively removing stubborn fat around areas such as the abdomen, chest, flanks, arms, and waist.

At Centre for Surgery, HD Lipo combines three complementary techniques: , , and Argo plasma helium-based skin tightening. This allows fat to be treated at different tissue depths while helping the overlying skin appear firmer and more refined in a single procedure.

The result is a more toned, athletic-looking surface anatomy that reflects the muscle definition already present beneath. HD Lipo is not a substitute for fitness, but a finishing procedure for patients who exercise regularly and want to address the final layer of subcutaneous fat that can hide their natural definition

HD Lipo at Centre for Surgery is performed by GMC specialist-registered consultant plastic surgeons and , with all procedures carried out as a day case under at the .

Your HD Lipo Surgeons — Mr Metin Nizamoglu & Mr Andreas Shiatis

HD Lipo at Centre for Surgery is performed by two GMC specialist-registered consultant plastic surgeons, both of whom subspecialise in body contouring and have individual expertise in VASER ultrasound, SAFElipo power-assisted liposuction, and Argo Plasma helium plasma skin tightening. At consultation you will see whichever surgeon’s availability and approach best matches your goals; both perform the full HD Lipo technique to the same protocol.

is a consultant plastic surgeon on the GMC Specialist Register, holding the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast). He undertook advanced fellowship training in high-definition liposculpture and performs HD Lipo as a dedicated subspecialty rather than as part of a general plastic surgery practice. His operative experience covers VASER ultrasound emulsification, SAFElipo™ power-assisted liposuction, Argo Plasma skin tightening, abdominal etching, fat transfer to chest, and post-weight-loss body contouring. Mr Nizamoglu’s clinical focus on body contouring means his HD Lipo experience far exceeds that of a general plastic surgeon who performs these procedures occasionally.

is a consultant plastic surgeon holding the FRCS(Plast) qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and on the GMC Specialist Register for plastic surgery. Mr Shiatis graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School, was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship to study at Boston University, and completed his plastic surgery training within the London Deanery at Guy’s and St Thomas’, the Royal Free and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals before a microsurgery fellowship at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His clinical practice covers both breast surgery and body contouring including HD Lipo, abdominal etching, VASER liposuction, and Argo Plasma skin tightening. He performs the full multi-technology HD Lipo protocol to the same standard as Mr Nizamoglu.

You can verify either surgeon’s GMC registration directly on the before booking. Both surgeons are members of recognised professional bodies and operate strictly within the standards set by the .

What Is High Definition Liposuction?

High-definition liposuction is an evolution of the abdominal etching technique developed in the 1990s, expanded by experienced body contouring surgeons including Mr Nizamoglu and Mr Shiatis into a comprehensive multi-area liposculpture approach that addresses the full torso — abdomen, flanks, lower back, chest and upper arms — in a single coordinated session.

The procedure differs from conventional liposuction in a fundamental way. Standard liposuction removes fat to reduce volume — the result is a slimmer contour. HD Lipo removes fat to reveal anatomy — the result is a sculpted, defined surface that shows muscular structure. This requires a two-layer approach plus skin tightening:

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) delivers ultrasound energy that selectively emulsifies fat cells while preserving the surrounding connective tissue, nerves and vessels. This allows the precise superficial sculpting required for HD Lipo to be performed with significantly less trauma than mechanical techniques alone. See: |

Argo Plasma is a helium-based cold plasma technology that delivers controlled thermal energy to the underside of the skin after liposuction. It tightens the dermis without surface burning and significantly enhances skin retraction over the sculpted contour — particularly valuable for patients with borderline skin elasticity.

Where fat transfer to the chest is included, harvested fat is processed and injected into the subpectoral area to add volume and definition to the pectoral muscles.

Am I Suitable for HD Lipo?

HD Lipo is a sculpting procedure, not a debulking one. Suitable candidates are men who already exercise regularly, have low body fat, and want to reveal muscular definition that is obscured by a residual layer of subcutaneous fat. It is not appropriate for significant fat reduction or for patients who are not already in good physical condition.

Mr Nizamoglu or Mr Shiatis will assess suitability at consultation based on the following criteria:

RELATED: — focused abdominal sculpting for patients where the concern is limited to the abdomen.

The HD Lipo Procedure — VASER, SAFElipo™ & Argo Plasma

All HD Lipo procedures at Centre for Surgery are performed by or as a day case under TIVA at our . The procedure takes approximately one to three hours depending on the areas treated.

Three complementary technologies are used in combination:

ultrasound energy selectively breaks down fat cells in the treatment zone while preserving connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. VASER is particularly suited to superficial fat sculpting because it allows very precise work in the thin fat layer immediately above the muscle fascia — the layer that needs to be removed to reveal the abdominal inscriptions. It also promotes skin retraction, which is important for the surface quality of the HD Lipo result.

— the MicroAire PAL system adds a gentle reciprocating movement to the cannula, allowing precise fat extraction with less force and less trauma. SAFElipo™ is used for both deep layer debulking and, with finer cannulas, for the superficial sculpting step. The reduced mechanical force compared to traditional liposuction results in less bruising and faster recovery.

Argo Plasmahelium-based cold plasma technology applied at the end of the liposuction phase. Controlled thermal energy delivered through fine probes tightens the dermis after fat removal, significantly enhancing skin retraction over the newly sculpted contour. Argo Plasma is particularly valuable in HD Lipo because the superficial fat sculpting step requires excellent skin retraction to reveal the underlying anatomy cleanlyArgo Plasma addresses this directly.

Performed with the patient standing before the procedure. Your surgeon marks the skeletal and muscular anatomy that will guide the sculpting: the abdominal inscriptions overlying the rectus abdominis, the inferior border of the pectorals, the lateral thoracolumbar fascia lines, the erector spinae border, the deltoid-biceps groove anteriorly, and the deltoid-triceps groove posteriorly. These markings define the sculpting plan precisely.

The lower back, flanks and posterior upper arms are treated first. VASER emulsification followed by SAFElipo debulks the deep lower back compartments and sculpts the lateral thoracolumbar fascia lines and erector spinae border. The posterior deltoid-triceps groove is marked through armpit incisions.

The patient is repositioned. VASER emulsification followed by SAFElipo debulks the deep medial and lateral abdominal compartments above and below the umbilicus, and the deep axillary fat. Superficial sculpting then traces the marked abdominal inscriptions and the inferior pectoral border. The anterior deltoid-biceps groove is treated through armpit incisions. All sculpting uses both straight and curved cannulas to follow the anatomy precisely.

Once liposuction is complete, Argo Plasma is applied across the treated areas to tighten the underside of the dermis. This step adds skin retraction that mechanical liposuction alone cannot achieve — particularly valuable in HD Lipo where the quality of the sculpted result depends on tight skin draping over the underlying anatomy.

Harvested fat is washed, filtered and transferred into the subcutaneous pectoral area through areolar and armpit incisions to add definition and volume to the pectoral muscles. No surgical drains are required after HD Lipo.

Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures. Specialised compression foam strips are applied over the sculpted superficial areas. A compression garment is applied before waking from TIVA.

Recovery After HD Lipo

HD Lipo recovery follows a structured protocol that directly affects the quality of the final result. Adherence to the postoperative programme — particularly the lymphatic massage schedule and compression garment use — significantly influences the degree of definition achieved.

Scheduled postoperative appointments at days 3, 7, and at six weeks, three months, six months and one year.

Two manual lymphatic drainage sessions are scheduled during the first postoperative week. These sessions drain swelling to the nearest lymph nodes and drain the marked superficial fat areas to prevent fibrosis and preserve the sculpted definition. Additional sessions are arranged if needed. This step is clinically important — prolonged swelling in the superficial sculpted areas without adequate drainage can produce fibrosis and diminished definition.

Applied over the sculpted areas at the end of surgery and worn for three to four days. Removed at the first massage therapy session.

Worn continuously for six weeks — remove only briefly for showering. Compression garments are not included in the procedure cost and must be purchased separately before your surgery date.

Pain is managed with paracetamol as required. Most patients are comfortable by the end of the first week and off pain medication by day eight to nine.

Most patients take one to two weeks away from desk-based work. Physically demanding roles require more.

Light activity can resume at two to three weeks. Return to full physical activity and gym training at six weeks once the compression garment is removed.

Significant skin retraction over the treated areas is typically visible as early as day three when the compression garment is first removed — the Argo Plasma component of HD Lipo materially enhances skin tightening compared to liposuction alone. Skin tightening continues to progress over the first several months after surgery as the tissue settles.

Initial definition visible from six weeks. Full results visible at three to six months as all swelling resolves and skin retraction completes.

FAQs

What To Expect

Your consultation takes place at our Baker Street clinic with either Mr Metin Nizamoglu or Mr Andreas Shiatis — both consultant plastic surgeons on the GMC Specialist Register who subspecialise in body contouring and are individually trained in the full VASER + SAFElipo™ + Argo Plasma HD Lipo technique. Your surgeon will take a full medical history, review all medications and assess your anatomy with the specific criteria for HD Lipo candidacy in mind: BMI, skin elasticity, pinch test, underlying muscle development, fat distribution across the torso, and skin quality. They will advise on whether the full torso HD Lipo, abdominal etching only, or liposuction alone is the most appropriate approach given your anatomy and goals. They will explain the VASER, SAFElipo™ and Argo Plasma technologies, the preoperative marking protocol, the areas to be treated, the expected procedure duration, and the postoperative protocol including lymphatic drainage massage. High-resolution photographs are taken. Computer imaging may be used to illustrate anticipated outcomes. A mandatory two-week cooling-off period applies from the date you provide consent before surgery can be booked. The £100 consultation fee is redeemable against the cost of your procedure if you proceed. You are welcome to return for as many follow-up consultations as you need before making a decision.

Once the cooling-off period has passed and you decide to proceed, the preoperative assessment team will contact you to complete your medical assessment and provide written preparation instructions. Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery and for a minimum of four weeks after. Smoking impairs wound healing and is associated with delayed recovery and increased risk of infection. This is mandatory. Stop aspirin and aspirin-containing medications at least one week before surgery. Stop anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen unless directed otherwise. Avoid herbal supplements for at least one week. Do not eat or drink for six hours before your procedure. Clear fluids — still water, black tea or black coffee — are permitted up to two hours before. Failing to observe the fasting period will result in postponement. Continue exercising in the weeks leading up to surgery — arriving in good physical condition with well-developed musculature improves the quality of the HD Lipo result. Purchase compression garments before your surgery date — these are not included in the procedure cost. Arrange a responsible adult to escort you home and remain with you for at least 24 hours after surgery. Book your two lymphatic drainage massage sessions for the first postoperative week before your surgery date — your patient coordinator will advise on scheduling these.

Please arrive at the confirmed admission time at our Baker Street clinic. A nurse will check your vital signs — blood pressure, pulse and temperature — and prepare you for surgery. Your consultant anaesthetist will assess you and confirm fitness for TIVA. Pre-medications are administered by your nurse. Your surgeon — Mr Nizamoglu or Mr Shiatis — will then confirm the operative plan and perform preoperative standing body marking — the skeletal and muscular anatomy is mapped bilaterally across the torso to define the sculpting plan precisely. HD Lipo is performed under TIVA as a day case. The procedure takes approximately one to three hours depending on the areas treated. The procedure begins in the prone (face-down) position treating the lower back, flanks and posterior arms, then continues in the supine (face-up) position treating the abdomen, chest and anterior arms. VASER ultrasound emulsification is used first in each area, followed by SAFElipo™ power-assisted liposuction for deep debulking then superficial sculpting. Argo Plasma helium plasma skin tightening is then applied across the treated areas to enhance dermal retraction. Where fat transfer to the chest is included, harvested fat is processed and injected at this stage. No surgical drains are required. Wounds are closed with dissolvable sutures, compression foam applied over sculpted areas, and a compression garment fitted before waking from TIVA. Once you have recovered from TIVA the nursing team monitors you for one to three hours. A responsible adult must take you home — driving is not permitted on the day of surgery.

24/7 clinical support is available for the first 48 hours. The postoperative support team will contact you regularly for the first two weeks to monitor comfort and healing progress. Attend both lymphatic drainage massage sessions in the first week — these are clinically essential. They drain swelling from the sculpted superficial fat areas and prevent fibrosis that would diminish definition in the final result. Compression foam worn for three to four days — removed at the first massage session. Compression garment worn continuously for six weeks — remove only briefly for showering. Compression garments are not included in the procedure cost and must be purchased separately before surgery. Pain is managed with paracetamol. Most patients are off pain medication by day eight to nine. Significant skin retraction over the treated areas is often visible at day three when the garment is first removed — the Argo Plasma component of HD Lipo materially enhances skin tightening compared to liposuction alone. Return to desk-based work: one to two weeks. Light activity: two to three weeks. Full gym training: six weeks. Postoperative clinic visits: days 3, 7, six weeks, three months, six months and one year — all included in your treatment package. Standardised photographs are taken at each visit to document result progression. At the six-week review your surgeon — Mr Nizamoglu or Mr Shiatis — will assess your healing and advise on the appropriate return to full physical activity.
