Not at all. It’s a personal choice. Many prefer to have a flat chest or wear a prosthesis, while some ladies feel better after having or reconstruction. Whatever works for you is the right way to do it.
Even if they seem alike, the sensations will never be exactly the same. Surgeons will try to make them appear the same, but differences in sensations and softness may be felt. After some time, a lot of women commented that they were happy with the outcomes.
On the day of your operation, you’ll be asleep under general anaesthesia and the operation can last for several hours, depending on whether the breasts are filled with implants or tissue. Following your procedure, you’ll wake up in the recovery area, and nurses will care for you until you feel better. In many cases, you will spend several days in the hospital. You should expect swelling, soreness, and tiredness, but your care team will help you every step of the way.
Although most people require around 6 to 8 weeks for recovery, everyone’s body is different, and that is perfectly fine. You may feel sore or somewhat restricted at the beginning, so try to rest enough to recover. Eventually, you will feel better, and your doctor will give you instructions on when to start your daily routine again. Feeling at ease may take a while, too. Always support yourself, turn to others when you need support, and understand that recovering from an operation takes time.

Areas with the highest cost of living tend to have higher prices for Breast reconstruction. These neighbourhoods include Notting Hill and Chelsea, Kensington and Knightsbridge, in addition to Mayfair. Prices may range from £9,500 to £15,00 per session and even higher for premium packages and additional
On the other hand, Breast reconstruction in those neighbourhoods with lower demands and more competitors may offer a lower price. For some areas, like Shoreditch and Hackney in East London, Clapham and Brixton in South London, Camden and Islington in North London, and Fulham and Hammersmith in West London, prices may range from £6,000 to £9,000 per session, depending on the clinic and package offer.
These are only approximations, to know the exact arm lift cost, consult your doctor.

- Consultation: Your surgeon will advise on which reconstruction option is best for you based on your body type, cancer treatment history, lifestyle, and goals.
- Pre-op Assessment: At this stage, you will have blood tests, imaging, and other medical exams.
- Anaesthesia Discussion: The anaesthesiologist will give you details on how your general anaesthesia will be given.
- Fasting: Your doctor will advise you to avoid eating and drinking for 6-8 hours before your surgery.
- Consent: Doctors will have you sign important consent papers, and you may also have the areas to be operated on marked.
After you have had your surgery, you will be transferred to the recovery room for monitoring. The nurses will pay extra attention to you after you wake up from anaesthesia. To relieve any pain, you will be given medications. Some people experience soreness, tiredness, or tightness around their chest, and it’s completely normal. You will be advised to wear a surgical bra or compression garment during the recovery period.
Begin by doing what your doctor recommended, such as caring for your wound, wearing a support bra, and using any prescribed drugs. Allow your body to recover by not moving too much or lifting strenuously for the next few months. You should keep up with visits to your surgeon, as they will review your progress and put your mind at ease. Make an effort to keep your weight unchanged and quit smoking, as they can affect your results. Take care of your skin – if recommended, use therapies and make sure the scar is not harmed by the sun. If your breasts have implants, your doctor may advise you to undergo occasional scans to ensure the safety of the implants. Always remember how you feel inside. Many people feel several emotions for different reasons, and joining a support group or reaching out to someone can help you feel included and part of the group. Taking care of yourself now is as vital as getting the surgery done correctly.
It’s not only about your outside looks; It’s also about your happiness with yourself. It may improve your experience with clothes, enhance confidence during intimate activities, and help you accept your new body after losing breasts.
Reconstruction of the breasts often allows people to heal and feel more in charge after cancer treatment. It helps you finish one phase of your life and start another, feeling stronger, confident, and like you again.
You will experience swelling and bruising, together with grogginess, soreness, and tightness in your chest area after the surgery. Drainage tubes may need to be placed in the surgical area.
Fatigue and mild pain are commonly present at this time. A drainage tube could still be needed. Bruising is at its peak at this moment.
Although the pain has lessened, you may still feel inflamed and stiff. Your energy may gradually be increased, but you can still be tired easily.
You may notice a decrease in swelling, and the scars begin to settle.
Most swelling has subsided, and your energy levels have improved. Even though the scars have already healed, they can still be red or uneven at first.
Your breasts will start to feel softer and look more like they are meant to. You may still experience a slight amount of sensitivity or numbness. Red scars start to change to light pink or the same with your skin.
Final results continue to evolve. Some types of reconstruction might not allow a person to feel everything as before. Wounds become less noticeable with time.

Breast reconstruction has both physical and emotional risks, just as with other surgeries. No, these are not shared to scare you, but rather to better prepare and support you during your recovery.
Some examples of physical risks include: Infection, bleeding, accumulating fluid, a slow recovery, or scarring. Receiving breast stimulation might make you feel various sensations, such as on the skin or around the .
Should implants be put in, it is possible for the patient to experience problems like capsular contracture, implant damage, or implant migration. When the doctor reconstructs the flap from elsewhere on your body, you may experience tissue loss, poor blood supply, or weakening of the muscles in the donor location.
Occasionally, patients may suffer permanent pain, have one breast that feels different from the other, or need additional surgery.
Some individuals may have a hard time accepting their new body, so it’s good to know that you can always ask for advice.
The great news is, general risks can be reduced by selecting a good surgeon, obeying your aftercare instructions, and always talking honestly with all members of your medical staff. Keep in mind that you are not alone in this journey.
