is a non-surgical treatment is recommended by NICE (The National Institute for Clinical Excellence), has a 98% success rate and is considered the Gold Standard of varicose vein treatment. EVLA focuses on the main venous trunks of the legs, locating the veins to be treated with ultrasound before using laser heat to destroy the wall of the varicose vein and effectively remove the cause of the problem. Once collapsed, the vein will then be naturally absorbed by the body and existing blood flow will be relocated to veins deeper in the leg.

is a Endothermal Ablation technique Varicose Veins and is also endorsed by NICE, with a similar success rate as EVLA. The procedure uses ultrasound to position the catheter into the veins being treated. The small catheter uses radiofrequency energy to heat the walls of the vein which then causes it to shrink and the vein to seal closed. The blood reroutes to other healthy veins and the treated veins will be absorbed by the body over time. Compression will need to be worn for at least one week after procedure but it has a faster recovery time compared to laser treatments.

Sclerotherapy also known as is a much stronger vein solution that involves injecting the varicose vein with a foam solution that causes inflammation in the vein resulting blood being pushed out of the vein and the vein then becoming sticky and closing up over the course of 1-2 weeks after treatment.

is great for patients with needle phobias, as it only requires one small injection per vein. The uses medical adhesive to close varicose veins. You will be required to have a small catheter inserted which the surgeon will then guide the leg using ultrasound imaging. During this process, a VenaSeal tool will be used to dispense small amounts of medical-grade Sapheon Glue to close the vein. Once closed, the blood is re-routed through other healthy veins located deeper within the leg and the original varicose vein is absorbed by the body. Another of VenaSeal treatment is its quick recovery time, many patients do not need to wear compression and find themselves able to return to work and exercise a lot quicker.

is a minimally invasive enlarged vein removal procedure that is effective at removing large varicose veins that sit just below the surface of the leg. Very small incisions will be made on the leg and a very fine surgical hook will be used to remove the varicose vein from the leg. Phlebectomy procedures do not require stitches and patients are able to return home shortly after their procedure. It is quite common for procedures to be performed alongside other varicose vein procedures as part of a comprehensive plan.

treatment for leg thread veins is an injectable treatment that involves injecting a liquid sclerosing agent into the affected thread or spider veins. The solution causes within the vein and vein wall which results in the vein walls sticking together and eventually breaking down over time.

is suitable for treating minor leg thread veins and . The Regenlite uses a specific wavelength of laser light to selectively target excess blood vessels near the of the skin. The laser light energy is safely absorbed by the blood and results in the targeted blood vessels being shut down.

Thread veins often require multiple treatments for the best results.

The start of all our patients’ vein treatment journey will begin with a consultation with one of our vascular . All of our varicose vein consultations include a free which is firmly established as the gold standard measure for assessing venous disease in the lower limbs. This scan is usually priced between £350 – £450 at most other clinics and private hospitals. Doing this scan enables our surgeons to identify the root cause of your varicose vein or thread vein and be able to prescribe the most effective treatment.

Following your consultation and duplex ultrasound scan, your surgeon will provide you with a treatment plan. Everyone’s treatment plan will vary depending on the severity of their veins. In the majority of cases, RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation) or EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) will be the best method for varicose vein removal. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommended RFA and EVLA treatments as an effective low-risk method to treat varicose with a 95.4% success rate.

Some patients may also require a combined or treatment of Foam Sclerotherapy or a Phlebectomy to help with veins closer to the surface of the skin.

In some cases, you may find out that you don’t actually have varicose veins at all, and thread vein treatment may be recommended . We will listen to your concerns and provide honest advice.

Cost of Varicose Vein Treatments

The cost of varicose vein treatment at our Leeds clinic will vary depending on the type of treatment that you require. Whilst our prices are competitive, they will also reflect the extensive experience of our Vascular Surgeons. An accurate quote will be provided following a consultation and duplex ultrasound scan. In some cases, Foam Sclerotherapy may be recommended as your primary treatment if EVLA or RFA is not required.

The cost of Foam Sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins starts from £1,020.

This price includes compression stockings, all aftercare and follow-up appointments.

The cost of RFA or EVLA treatment for varicose veins starts from £2,880.

Thread Vein treatments start from £270 for Regenlite and from £750 for Microsclerotherapy treatment.

Please note that a course of 3-4 treatments are often required for the best results.

Varicose veins are enlarged veins that commonly appear on the legs. They may be dark purple or blue in colour and can bulge out from the surface of the skin.

Varicose veins are damaged veins that are no longer able to function properly and stop the blood from flowing backwards. When the blood flows backwards it can end up sitting in the vein causing it to become swollen and enlarged which is often visible from the surface of the skin.

If you have varicose veins you may experience an itchy sensation around the site of the veins, pain after sitting or standing for extended periods of time, consistent aching feeling in the leg and burning, swelling or muscle cramping in the lower legs.

Thread or Spider veins are small veins that typically appear on the thighs, calves and ankles but can also be found on the face. They are usually red, blue or purple in colour and often appear in a cluster.

Whilst generally a cosmetic issue, thread veins can sometimes indicate deeper issues such as hidden varicose veins. This is why we include a duplex ultrasound scan in all of our vein consultations to ensure you are recieving the most effective treatment. 

Treatments for varicose veins and thread veins are performed all year round. Many prefer to choose the Autumn or Winter months to allow them enough time to recover and be ready for the warmer weather or holidays in the summer. We have a variety of treatments to suit everyone’s needs and our experienced vascular surgeons will be able to help you decide when the best time for treatment is for you.

Many patients are able to see a difference immediately after the procedure has taken place but as you will be often required to wear a compression stocking for at least a week following the procedure, the initial results will not be visible.

When you take your stocking off, you may have some bruising, but you should notice a reduction in the appearance of your varicose and thread veins.

The best results are seen 6 weeks following your vein procedure.

Varicose vein removal is a very safe procedure that is performed both privately and on the NHS. Varicose veins are veins that are not performing properly and therefore they are not needed. Once the varicose veins have been removed, the other veins in the area will be able to move the blood around the body more effectively without having to deal with the underperforming varicose vein that was previously causing them to work harder.

Traditionally varicose veins removal treatment has involved vein stripping which not only results in a substantial amount of downtime but also involves a lot of revision surgery for unsuccessful treatments. Vein stripping has also been by NICE not to be used except in exceptional circumstances. We have always believed there to be much better treatments available and therefore only offer what we believe to be the best for treating varicose veins.
